About Me

My name is Michael Dobler. I'm Austrian and currently living with my wife and our two children in Edmonton, Canada where I work as the Lead Software Developer for A. D. Williams Engineering Inc.

Originally a civil engineer I soon found out that my interests lay in the fields of languages and computer sciences. After some years on University studying English and Russian I decided to skip languages for computers and started over in the IT sector.

Tackling several languages including VB, Omnis, SQL Windows (somebody remembers these?) and others I finally met VB.net and fell instantly in love with it -- and this is what this site is all about: to show you that you can do quite everything in VB.net (or any other .net language for that matter)...

My newest addition to the ever growing technologies would be ASP.net. I tried to avoid web development for a long time but I finally had to tackle it. Let's see where it takes me

Why Steepvalley?

The reason why I called this site steepvalley.net is quite simple: every domain with Dobler was already taken and because, simply translated, Dobler means "somebody living in or near a ravine or steep valley" (I got that one from a genealogy print my brother brought me as a phony gift from the U.S...), I thought of it as a pretty good name.

And it pretty much describes the area I grew up and still live in: the southern corner of Lake Constance where Austria, Switzerland and Germany share their borders.
